The Practice was founded in 1978 by Robert McNaught and from the outset Professionalism and Service have been at the centre of our philosophy. Robert was joined in 1980 by Roger Pepper. They had worked together for some ten years and developed the firm from very modest beginnings to one dealing with multi-million pound building projects. Both Partners were keen to adopt modern methods of practice but only if proved to be beneficial to our clients. Consequently the firm was one of the first in the south of England to adopt the JCT Design and Build Contract in 1981. The overriding objective of the Practice has always been to give the Client the very best possible service but equally to treat all Contractors in a fair and impartial manner as demanded by the standard form of contracts. Sadly for the Practice Robert died suddenly in 1995. Gary Fletcher had joined the firm in 1989 as a senior surveyor and was appointed an equity partner in 1995. McNaughts core business has always been providing a ‘tailor made’ Quantity Surveying service for Clients and a conscious decision was made not to become a multi-discipline practice. However with our detailed knowledge of the Design and Build contract many Clients asked us to undertake the role of Employer’s Agent and subsequently to act as overall Project Managers on the larger building projects. We can now also offer the service of Planning Supervisor in accordance with the CDM regulations. McNaughts had established long term relationships with many large organisations providing them with ‘turn key’ solutions to their building requirements. It was therefore a natural progression that McNaughts should be consulted on the new partnering contracts championed by Egan and, universally adopted by Housing Associations. By 2002 it was apparent the greater proportion of fee income was being generated by Employer’s Agent/Project Management services and McNaughts was fortunate to pursuade Nigel Over to join as an equity partner to strengthen this sector of the Practice. McNaughts has grown steadily and strongly year upon year and operating from our Poole office, now services projects throughout the U.K. |
